One of the best things about travelling is that there are so many different forms it can take. You can explore cities, go off the beaten path and discover quaint villages, and then there’s the whole matter of the great outdoors. Natural areas essentially cover the entire world (there’s much more wild space than cities), which means the possibilities for exploration and discovery are endless. And it sure can be fun to get out there, especially when you combine your travels with outdoor activities.
Below, we take a look at some of the best destinations for outdoor recreation. If you’re looking to make your travels a little more exciting, then consider one of the below for your next trip.
For The Hikers
You don’t need to move super fast to make the most of the outdoors. It’s enough that you just walk. There are plenty of good reasons for going on a hiking trip -- you get to enjoy nature at a slow pace, you’ll get fit, and you have hour after hour to let the conversation and good times flow with your fellow travellers. In Europe, the Alps is the best place to look -- but don’t worry, there are routes for all levels. If you’re experienced and you’re looking for a long trip, then the PCT or the Appalachian Trail in the States will appeal.
Surf’s Up
How strange it is that we call our planet ‘earth’ when it should really be called ‘ocean.’ After all, 70% of the surface is covered with water! If you’re looking to enjoy the ocean on your travels, then take a look at surfing. People are usually put off because they think it’s difficult to learn, but you’ll pick it up after a few surf lessons. Morocco is considered to be one of the best places to learn how to surf, and specifically in Essaouira. Book your trip, and begin your journey towards learning a new skill.
Down the Slopes
Most people tend to take their travel trips in the summer, when the weather is fine, but there’s a lot of value in taking a winter trip, and spending some time in the snow. Skiing and snowboarding, for example, can be a lot of fun, and especially so when you’re with a fun group of people. Skiing during the day, apres-ski in the evening -- it’s a magical life. Austria and Andorra are considered to be two of the best beginner ski destinations, while Whistler and the Alps are there when you want to try something a little more challenging.
Sleeping Under the Stars
Finally, don’t forget about good old camping! People don’t tend to think of it as an activity, but it is, because so much is involved -- such as setting up camp, making food, and so on. And the best thing about camping is that you can do it everywhere; all camping destinations have their charms. It’s just advised that you begin in spring or summer when the weather is nice, and you can get used to it without rain.
Well, with a couple of tips like the ones listed above, hopefully you’ll feel nothing but excitement for your next trip away.
